Scubaweek Ibiza 2025: the island dives into a week of education, sea, and environmental awareness

From October 21 to 27, Ibiza will host a new edition of Scubaweek, a celebration dedicated to the sea, sustainability, and environmental education that invites everyone to rediscover the island from a different perspective — from beneath the waves.

Organized with the support of the Fomento del Turismo de la Isla de Ibiza and various local institutions, Scubaweek Ibiza 2025 aims to introduce young people to scuba diving and showcase the natural wealth hidden beneath the island’s waters, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their extensive meadows of Posidonia oceanica — a biological treasure unique to the Mediterranean.

Beyond fun, the goal of the event is to teach respect for the marine environment, encourage healthy habits, and promote active, sustainable tourism that values Ibiza’s natural surroundings.

The program kicks off on Tuesday, October 21 with an Introductory Scuba Diving Masterclass at Teatro España (Santa Eulària). This free session, designed for young audiences, will combine videos, experiments, and hands-on activities to learn the physical principles of diving in a fun way.

On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 October, the focus shifts to pool training sessions at the Municipal Pool of Santa Gertrudis, where certified instructors will guide participants through their first contact with scuba equipment in a safe and controlled environment.

Saturday, October 25 will be the most creative day, featuring the family workshop “Art versus Plastics”, an initiative to raise awareness about marine pollution by creating art with materials recovered from the sea. In the afternoon, the roundtable “Teaching scuba diving to young people” will bring together educators, experts, and families to discuss the benefits of diving as an educational and environmental tool.

On Sunday, October 26, participants will enjoy a dive among the Posidonia meadows, a one-of-a-kind experience to witness the blooming of this marine plant that oxygenates the waters, protects the coastline, and shelters hundreds of Mediterranean species.

The week will close on Monday, October 27 at Teatro España (Santa Eulària) with the lecture “Symbiosis between Nature and History”, focused on underwater archaeology and the conservation of submerged heritage, followed by the official closing ceremony.

A commitment to Ibiza’s blue future

Scubaweek is not just about learning to dive — it’s about inspiring a genuine connection with the sea. As Jacques Cousteau once said, “You only protect what you love, and you only love what you know.”

As the organizers put it, “Teaching young people to practice sports at sea is teaching respect, health, and environmental awareness. The sea is not only visited — it is lived and cared for.”

Ibiza’s crystal-clear waters, renowned for their transparency and biodiversity, are home to iconic species such as groupers, seahorses, starfish, and Pinna nobilis — the largest bivalve in the Mediterranean — all thriving in a natural underwater sanctuary of immense ecological value.

With Scubaweek Ibiza 2025, the island reaffirms its commitment to environmental education and responsible tourism, offering an experience that connects science, sport, art, and sustainability.
