The Fisherman's Route discovers the seafaring tradition of Ibiza to about a hundred participants

Last Saturday, September 12, nearly a hundred people participated in the Enjoy Ibiza Day 'Ruta del Pescador' – Gymkhana express and Workshops, a free experience that turned the streets of the port and the Marina of Eivissa into a great stage for games, challenges and learning.
Families, residents and visitors had the opportunity to get closer to the history of the city and its close relationship with the sea, fishing and seafaring traditions through a participatory proposal designed to learn while touring some of the most emblematic places in the historic center.
A cultural gymkhana through Vila's seafaring history

The experience began at 6:00 p.m. next to the King's Rod Clock, where a couple of pirates and a sailor received the participants and explained how the activity works.
Each attendee also received their own "Fisherman's Bag", which included a diary in which they could make notes, solve tests, draw and collect their impressions along the route.
Divided into small groups, the participants began a cultural gymkhana through the historic centre of Eivissa. To advance they had to solve clues and questions, pass observation tests and complete small challenges related to the maritime and fishing history of the city.
The itinerary passed through spaces especially linked to the seafaring memory of Vila, such as the monument to Vara de Rey, the monument to the people of the sea, the obelisk, the church of Sant Elm and sa Peixateria.
During the route there was also no shortage of creative photographs, videos and tests that invited you to look at the city with different eyes. A different and fun way to get closer to the heritage of Ibiza and discover stories that often go unnoticed on a regular walk through its streets.
Workshops to continue discovering the sea and the traditions of Ibiza

The second part of the day took place in Sa Peixateria, where a workshop area was set up to continue exploring different aspects related to the Mediterranean and the culture of the island.
Among the activities was a workshop on sailor knots, which allowed them to learn about some of the techniques traditionally used by those who have worked at sea, and a virtual reality experience with which participants were able to take an underwater trip to discover the seabed and biodiversity of Ibiza.
The programme also included a proposal dedicated to the historical importance of salt and salt flats, elements closely linked to the economic, cultural and landscape development of the Pitiusas.
Environmental awareness also played a leading role thanks to a marine plastic recycling workshop, which allowed us to reflect on the importance of taking care of our seas and reducing the impact of waste.
The activities were completed with proposals related to marine botany and an original chess game inspired by the seafaring world, making learning, play and sustainability coexist in the same afternoon.
An experience to get to know and appreciate the seafaring Eivissa

The Fisherman's Route was promoted by Enjoy Ibiza Activities, the active tourism club of Fomento de Turismo de Ibiza, in collaboration with the Ibiza City Council and with the participation of different partners of the association: Ibiza Eco Tours, Anfibios Ibiza, Virazon Charter, Chess Ibiza, Ibiza Nature Hikes and Azuree Ibiza Events.
The initiative aimed to highlight the historical relationship of Ibiza with the sea, fishing and its traditions, but doing so from a different perspective: making each participant the protagonist of their own route.
Through play, experimentation and practical activities, young and old were able to learn more about the city's heritage, discover the richness of its seabed and get closer to some of the customs that have defined Ibiza's identity for generations.
An experience that demonstrates, once again, that getting to know the island also means looking at the sea and understanding everything it has contributed to its history, culture and way of life.
